| Ray Burns is a Physical Therapist, Certified Athletic Trainer, also trained in the Feldenkrais Method®, the Anat Baniel Method(sm), & the Anat Baniel Method for Children(SM), practicing in the Saginaw Valley of Michigan. My unique approach to physical therapy is to access a tool chest of both traditional and complimentary methods all intended to improve the overall function of the patient. Many times surprisingly exceeding the expectations of the patients. I help people overcome pain, regain youthful movement, return to sports and walk easier. I help little people gain movement elusive to them. All intended to live life better on life’s terms by surprisingly learning to move easier. You may be at a place were you have had enough pain, you have tried traditional methods with some success, you want to get off of pain medication(s), an athletic injury keeps repeating, or your child may not be improving or in a stall with therapy. Learn the ABC's of movement Give my method a trial. The outcomes I get of course vary from client to client. Sometimes outcomes are extraordinary at times. I know this method is not for everyone. My experiences are that the benefits to my approach tremendously outweigh the risks when my intent is to teach you how to learn move and change positions both painless and easy. I utilize techniques with patients that have experienced myself to significantly improve my own issues with TMJ and scoliosis. Doing less is more Strength can be improved naturally by learning to move or change positions in gravity. Most of us don't realize you can get stronger without lifting heavy weight. You can generate maximal strength in a muscle by getting a muscle to vary in length and utilize minimal force under a load in gravity. Most of us also don't realize that joint range of motion can be improved without stretching. You can gain the maximal degrees of freedom in joints by learning to move. The brain is the hard drive of the body that regulates movement. What we need is a good working brain. All gain & no pain My experiences with pain sufferers are that you can stop clinging to unknowingly inefficient ways to move because of the fear of increasing pain. One injury event can trigger a sequence of events of compensatory movement and loss of previous activities. Relearn to move and regain the activities that you have been elusive since the pain started. Subtlety can improve athletic performance My experiences with athletes are you can easily perform at a surprisingly high level of strength and power. Remove the injury pattern that limits you from increasing your performance threshold. Athletes need to be able shift weight through the neutral and back easy and effortless under a tremendous load. Injuries may limit this. Subtle may be needed because too much power can limit performance. The best kept secret out there working with infants & children My experiences with little people challenged by the inabiltiy or difficulty of rolling, sitting up, crawling, walking are the learning switch needs to be turned on so they can take action. Take advantage of the work and teachings of the incredible methods I learned from my mentor Anat Baniel. The teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais and Anat Baniel I feel are the best kept secret out there unknown to parents, especially working with infants and children. Some of the outcomes I have seen as a result of these methods have exceeded medical expectations. Anti-aging and working are infants are all the same My experiences with seniors are activities like walking, getting out of chairs, getting out of bed, getting off of the floor, and holding grandchildren can be done much easier as we age. Balance also can be improved.. Suffering years of deterioration in function in many ways can be avoided with knowledge of a method that has benefited many worldwide. Aging may be variation deprivation, especially with movement. Working with infants and seniors are all the same to me because humans are hard-wired to move same way. Current research in neuro-plasticity, by scientists Norman Doidge and Michael Merzenich may support the work and teaching of Dr. Feldenkrais' and Anat Baniel's theories. I usually spend 45 minutes to 60 minutes with each client. I am not part of a corporate physical therapy franchise pushing procedures or visits. I work individually one-on-one with each client giving specific instructions. I see clients every visit. I hope to see you or hear from you. |
“I recommend the Feldenkrais Method® to patients whose movement has been restricted by injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, fibromyalgia, or chronic pain. I find it to be much more useful that standard physical therapy. I also believe that the Feldenkrais Method® can help all of us feel more comfortable in our bodies”. -Andrew Weil, M.D., Author of “Spontaneous Healing”. |

"I am an orthopedic surgeon sub-specializing in sports medicine. I have sent many patients for consultation who have failed treatment in other facilities. Ray's adjuvant use of manual therapy has proved timely and beneficial for these more difficult cases resulting in significant improvement in function. He is available, reliable, and always open to dialogue. I would not hesitate to recommend his facility to patients and colleagues alike. He has much to offer." -Terrance B. McAllister, MD "I have severe psoriatic arthritis for as long as I can remember. When I first came to Ray I would limp into therapy and waltz out without a limp. A result of this therapy a lot of my joints are working. It is so simple yet has made a profound difference in my life" -Suellen Bartel, a former client, now colleage and good friend She is now trained in the Feldenkrais Method®, the Anat Baniel Method(sm), & the Anat Baniel Method for Children(SM). She is practicing in Bay City, Michigan. |
| "Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais has developed a system that is many years ahead of conventional medical understanding. Following the program with Feldenkrais, patients showed significant improvement in their levels of pain, decreased numbers of medications, and increased quality of life." - Martin Rossman, M.D., American Journal of Pain Management "Parting with you today I did not really get a chance to thank you the way I had wished. You have done so much to improve my life in just three weeks of therapy it is almost unbelievable. The knowledge you gave me will help me stay well and improve my sports play. I can't thank you enough for your patience and support of my shoulder recovery." T. Paris, 60 year old softball player "I have been to various PT sessions for many months over a period of years. The various styles, exercises, and machines were supposed to make me better but hurt me. This made me hate going to PT because I always seem to hurt when I came back home. Ray did not make me stress myself by using very slow, deliberate movements and stretches. As a result, I was able to achieve more flexibility and movement in ways I have not been able to move in years. I am totally amazed that I can get up off the floor by myself!! Over time Ray taught me how to recognize my movements. I can now consciously move my whole spine without pain instead of keeping my spine like a board. I am able to move my spine without weights, stress or most importantly without any more pain. He also used pressure point release to ease the stress on the knotted muscles in my spine which is very effective and made me immediately feel better. By not leaving my PT sessions in pain, it made me want to go back to PT without hesitation. My attitude toward life in much improved. I am happier now that I am not in pain. I highly recommend Ray Burns’ method and have told many of my friends about his wonderful style of PT. –P. Wahl |
